"Heliocentric Configurations" delves deeply into the esoteric significance of solar symbolism, drawing heavily upon occult traditions, sacred geometry, and ancient mystical philosophies. This collection of five meticulously crafted 6x6-inch artworks functions as a ritualistic meditation, inviting contemplation of humanity’s perennial reverence for the Sun.
The foundational composition is structured by intersecting X patterns and rhythmic repetitions, symbolic of duality, crossroads, and the sacred balance between chaos and order. Numerologically charged groupings of circles in shades of yellow and orange, representing celestial bodies in fluctuating orbits, further evoke cosmic unpredictability.
Each piece prominently features a unique, hand-crafted solar sigil in vivid yellow. These sigils invoke diverse occult dimensions of solar energy, resonating with ancient traditions that venerated the Sun as the ultimate symbol of enlightenment, wisdom, and spiritual potency.
Central to each composition is a small, mechanically rotating sun, executing a complete rotation every 60 seconds. This continuously moving luminary symbolizes eternal cycles, regeneration, and illumination—themes intrinsic to solar worship throughout human history.
The enigmatic alphanumeric titles of these works are directly inspired by verses referencing solar symbolism within Aleister Crowley’s "The Book of the Law." Each title embeds deeper layers of hermetic philosophy and symbolic resonance within the artwork:
-
"C1V16" references the eternal duality and complementary nature of solar and lunar energies, representing illumination and reflection, active force and receptive power
-
"C2V21" embodies the dynamic transformative potential of solar forces, representing spiritual awakening and self-realization
-
"C3V22" highlights the violent yet illuminating power of solar deity Ra-Hoor-Khuit, symbolizing spiritual conflict and rebirth through destruction
-
"C3V37" further invokes the fierce illumination and revelatory might inherent in solar symbolism, expressing clarity and enlightenment that emerges from trials
-
"C3V74" emphasizes the unyielding and purifying power of the Sun, signifying spiritual resilience, discipline, and transformative illumination
The works embody a profound exploration of occult and spiritual traditions associated with solar worship. Schaefer’s artistic synthesis invites viewers into a dialogue with timeless mystical principles, the illuminating power of esoteric numerology, and the eternal symbolism of the Sun as humanity’s primal source of enlightenment and divine insight.
